About PuMP Certification

How to become Certified in the PuMP Performance Measure Blueprint Methodology

After you complete the PuMP Performance Measure Blueprint training, you can have your learning formally acknowledged and add another powerful certification to your resume.

What is PuMP?

PuMP is a practical and engaging performance measurement approach to develop KPIs that are meaningful and measure what matters. You can watch an introductory video and read more about PuMP here.

Why PuMP Certification is worth having

David Burton, a Business Analyst in Perth, Australia, shares his reasons for adopting PuMP and getting his PuMP Certification:

“Why did I go for PuMP certification?

As a Business Analyst the role I perform involves process analysis to ensure that our processes ultimately support our corporate objectives, and to identify re-alignment and improvement opportunities and make these sustainable. Key to this is understanding the measures which signal whether our efforts are succeeding, when intervention is required, and what types of intervention are needed. This is a key requirement of my role, and PuMP was recommended as an excellent methodology to achieve this, and that I should therefore gain certification.

How the experience was for me?

The course was great, it was very engaging and the PuMP methodology resonated strongly in its applicability to the processes I have worked with throughout my career. The case study was also a great aid to give context to the teachings in the course, the facilitator was knowledgeable and helpful, and the course was paced about right. I was a little apprehensive about the assessment, but I did all the recommended preparation and got a good score, so was happy with that.

What does it mean for me now that I have PuMP certification?

I will be looking for opportunities to apply this methodology in the future and be advocating the benefits, regardless of what role I do. Some of my colleagues have also gained PuMP certification and being part of this community will undoubtedly help in this regard.”

PuMP Certification demonstrates your ability to develop performance measures that are meaningful, aligned to strategy, implemented efficiently and focused on driving performance improvement. This is a powerful capability to include in your resume and give you an edge over other candidates for promotions and new positions.

PuMP is certified by APMG, the world’s leading accreditation and exam institute for professional certifications.

After you have passed the exam, and receive your PuMP Certification, you can:

  • Use the term ‘PuMP Certified’ or just ‘PuMP’ following your name in your signature and resume, along with other accreditations you have. For example:
Stacey Barr, BSc, Grad Dip, PuMP
  • Add your ‘PuMP Certified’ digital badge to your social media profiles.
  • Use the PuMP Blueprint materials within your organisation. You won’t, however, be entitled to use PuMP commercially or to represent me or my brand or company in any way. (That’s an entitlement just for licensed PuMP Partners.)
  • Brag about how you really know your stuff when it comes to performance measurement!

How to apply for PuMP Certification

After completing the PuMP Blueprint Workshop, the PuMP Blueprint Online Program or a PuMP Blueprint In-house Workshop, you can opt to apply for PuMP Certification.

After you submit your application for PuMP Certification, you will have 12 months to sit the exam. That’s plenty of time, don’t you agree? We will send you  reminders, but please understand that if you fail to sit the exam within this generous 12-month time frame, your application will be cancelled. You can apply again, but there will be a fee of $200AUD.

When you sit the exam, you’ll have a one hour time limit to answer 40 multiple-choice questions (chosen at random from a pool of 99 multiple-choice questions), and you’ll get your score immediately. A score of 75% is needed to pass.

How long your PuMP Certification will remain valid

Your PuMP Certification will stay valid for a period of 5 years from the date of your passing the exam.

The reason for the expiration of five years is that the PuMP Blueprint methodology is something that we believe needs to be practiced regularly, and updated as the methodology evolves over time, to retain current knowledge and skill.

We will contact certificate holders at a period close to 5 years with an invitation to do the exam again, for a small fee, and confirm that their skills have been updated and retained.

Having a requirement for re-certification will ensure the value of the certification as something that is an objective indicator of current knowledge.

Who is eligible to take the PuMP Certification exam?

If you have participated in any PuMP Blueprint workshop or program, you are eligible to take the exam and gain PuMP Certification.

If your participation is in 2013 or later, your workshop or program registration fee covers the certification. You will receive special instructions from us as part of your program communications. For more information about becoming certified or renewing your certification, contact us.
